Plus Size Outfit of the Day: Pattern Mixing

Unlikely combination. Today’s ‪#‎psootd‬ features a patterned sweater and leggings that I never would have thought would be complimentary, but there you have it, the surprising results of pattern mixing.

By now you know that I’m a lover of tunics and leggings in the Winter months. It’s just a combination that works for my shape. But sometimes, when we find a cut or combination that works for us, we may end up mindlessly repeating it and letting our stylee-senses fall to the wayside.

This is why I force myself to opt for contrasting colours, patterns and textures when putting outfits together.

When I saw this varsity sweater dress at Forever 21, I knew it was for me. Although featured on their website as a dress, which I could do in summer or to go out, I knew it would be great as a tunic. The classic black and white pattern can be paired with solids and patterns as I did with these herringbone tights from Addition Elle.

You might never suspect it, but it works so well to add yet another pattern, the animal print belt and necklace. And the hint of pink in the necklace picks up the magenta tones in the tights quite nicely.

Any wide calf boots would have done the trick here, but I opted for one of my all-time favorite styles, the Venus by SexyPlus (designed by Boots by Pamela).

I am wearing shapewear because I like a sleek, more contained look and feel.

I shot these images myself with my tripod so excuse me if they all kinda look the same! Points for effort? 🙂

New Year’s Eve: Stayin’ In, In Style

Sometimes a small get together or an evening in with a friend or your partner is just the right vibe for New Year’s Eve. It all depends on your mood, the weather, where you are in life, and what you feel is more fulfilling. Over the years, I’ve done both. This year, my husband Howard actually asked me on a NYE date! I’m totally going to get dressed up and dance the night away. But I wanted to share a look that’s nice, festive, comfortable, and just the thing for staying in this year.

This embellished neck blouse by Point Zero Curvy is so charming. Pin tuck detail on the shoulders, beaded velvet neckline, and criss-cross back.

IMG_0501Point Zero never misses the mark with detail, which is so nice for such an affordable collection.

I’m wearing the 1X and while I liked the tunic length, I found the body fit a little loose. Plus I always prefer to outline my shape with either fitted clothing or a belt, so that’s what I did here to make the blouse more “me”. I opted for a simple black belt with silver detailing to complement the embellished neckline of the blouse.

To bring in some color I wore my favorite Kristi Wide Calf Boots by SexyPlus (designed by Boots by Pamela). They are a size 7 and fit perfectly. I’ve gotten so much wear from them this season because, well, isn’t it obvious? They’re red and so so beautiful! It’s funny, most people will go for black for that reason – they think they’ll get more mileage from a more neutral color, but sometimes you just have to be creative. I’ve had no shortage of brown, grey, black and white outfits to wear with these.

Tell me, what are your plans for New Year’s Eve? Staying in or going out? Let me know, and let me see you by sharing your pics on my Facebook page.

Special thanks to Point Zero Curvy for sponsoring this post, and to Annika of The Stylish Reid for taking the photos for me!

Say hello – again – to Suzy Shier

As a woman in my forties, I grew up with Suzy Shier. Eventually though I stopped shopping there as my chubbiness turned into real plus size. I would walk by the display windows and wouldn’t bother going in, or I’d wait on a bench when my slimmer friends shopped gleefully.

Until now.

They recently introduced plus sizes and I had the chance to see some of their pieces in action at their plus size fashion event hosted by Dare Magazine about a month ago. So say hello – again – to Suzy Shier!

Here are some of my change room try-ons…

I mostly tried items from their new plus size line. Surprisingly, I was also able to fit into some of their extra large styles from their regular line, like the window-pane tunic and leggings I am featuring in this post.

Being someone who is confident in my curves (with the help of a little shapewear to feel supported), I liked the tight fit and length of this gorgeous tunic sweater, and the little draw-string detail on one side.

And these leggings are my new fav! They’re so Olivia-Newton-John with their shiny fabric and super sleek fit. I wear a size 16 bottom, and their XL leggings were perfect. In the plus sizes, they had quite an impressive selection of bottoms in many seasonal colors and cool fabrics.

My new favorite red corset-style wide calf boots were a bold compliment to the otherwise neutral tones in this outfit.

And to polish off the look, I added my Tuxedo Cardigan with mesh bottom detail from SexyPlus Clothing. Long cardis are everything this season and I hope they’re here to stay because they provide a dramatic, elegant finish to any outfit.

This gorgeous tribal statement necklace was the final touch. I seriously felt like a million bucks in this outfit and wish I had had more to do that day than shoot for this blog LOL!

Roses are Red, Fall is Blue!

In addition to “marsala” – a new color for Fall, which, to me sounds like a delicious Indian Dish, cobalt blue is here to stay. When I went in to Addition Elle last week I fell in love with this super soft, cozy blue & black cardi. Although the print or weave style is called “Space Dye”, it was totally down to earth 🙂

I pictured myself styling it with a plain black dress, graphic t-shirt, or with denim and boots as shown in this post. The thing with long cardis is that they are so dramatic, flattering and convey this sense of haute style. I’m so glad they are trending, and you’ll see more of them next year too in lace and crochet and beyond.

Not only does it have a hoodie, but it also has POCKETS! Simple pleasures ladies.

To keep the look light and fresh, I chose a basic long white cami, acid wash jeggings and this wide black and blue belt also from Addition Elle (last year) and my favorite over-the-knee wide calf boots by SexyPlus Clothing (designed by Boots by Pamela).

For the accessories, I chose a white Zwarovski necklace and earring set by SexyPlus Clothing (designed by My Beaded Designs), and my triple LOVE INFINITY bracelet set by Pennington’s (last year).

You see ladies, you CAN wear belts and fitted tops even with a belly.

And finally, this selfie to show you the incredible magnifying power of Younique Fiber Lashes by You’ve got to try them – so much easier and more effective than falsies.

Thoughts? Do you like the look, and are you into the long cardi trend? Comment below, I always love hearing from you.
