Plus Size Outfit of the Day: Casual Regal

I love strapless maxi dress, especially semi-fitted ones. While some shy away from fitted, curve-defining styles, I find they work best for me (yes, despite my apple shape and visible belly outline). This one has a slight a-line shape and empire waist. I paired it with a black bolero to make the look a little less revealing and for some coverage given the still chilly temps here in Toronto, Canada.

Enchanting Fall Maxi

I love, love, lovelove love maxi dresses, even as a petite plus woman. But it’s hard to stay with them as the temperature drops because there’s little selection where the fabrics and colours are appropriate for the changing season. That’s why I was enchanted with this style, which was selected by SWAK Designs especially for me. You see, SWAK (Sealed With A Kiss) understands the plus size woman, and is dedicated to celebrating not only her curves, but her vitality as well. This is proven in the range of plus size clothing they create and the exciting variety of plus size dresses they dream up for us. Just look at the diversity in the image below taken from their Fall look-book.

I was so pleased when I received the Caitlyn Maxi Wrap Dress because of its vivid harvest colours and wrap style. Wrap dresses work well because they allow for a custom fit; wrapping as tight or as loose as you want, and the overlay created by the wrap provides a good layer over the tummy to fashion a smooth look.

The rich colors and diagonal print are just so visually interesting and draw the eyes up.

Even from the side, where my belly is more visible, this style works well.

IMG_2677

I styled it with a simple but striking chocker necklace, and this crazy beautiful clutch by Aldo Accessories. I didn’t need much else because this dress does all the talking.

It’s really such a lovely dress, and so easy to wear.

So say hello to Fall without saying goodbye to maxi dresses.

It also comes in this gorgeous abstract print.

And although I wore a wedge sandal with this look, it would have been lovely with a little bootie or ballerina shoe, as shown below by Additon Elle. Eloquii has also introduced some lovely wide width footwear options.

My First eShakti Experience – I’m Addicted!

Sometimes you just want to order something cute online and be done with it. Especially if you’re an experienced online shopper.

But if you actually take the time to measure yourself (your bust, waist, hips and height) and use eShakti’s easy-to-use custom-design service, you’ll be completely amazed with a perfectly tailored dress. It’s free the first time, and $7.50 for subsequent orders. There is no additional charge if you are not requesting any customization.

My first experience with eShakti blew me away. I chose this majestic maxi dress and custom-ordered the sleeves and the length to suit my 5’1″ height. It was already designed with the gorgeous cut out at the bust and the pockets. Wonderful glorious pockets.

IMG_5263

Based on their measurements, I ordered a standard size 18 and the fit was SUPREME!!! In a thick, good quality jersey fabric, it was comfortable but still impressive and could have been easily dressed up with jewelry and heels. For this look, I went in between – a casual zebra print wedge with a vintage style fascinator (for those who don’t know, that’s what you call the pink thing on my head).

IMG_5193

The bust cut out was sexy and made me feel like my bust was a presentation – which, it kinda is.

IMG_5225

The full circle skirt was oh so dramatic, even when standing still, and yes, even without a perfect lift from the breeze.

So please ladies, I urge you to try eShakti, and let them dazzle you with their quality, designs, and fabulous second-to-none customization option. You’ll feel like a damsel in the pre-Edwardian era where once upon a time, every garment a woman wore was superbly crafted to her resplendent curves.

Affordable, Cute, Good Quality AND Plus Size? You don’t say….

If you know me as the owner of the plus size clothing boutique SexyPlus Clothing, then you may have heard about the new AFFORDABLE CASUAL COLLECTION I recently introduced.

It. Is. Everything.

SexyPlus Clothing has established itself as a go-to store for sexy, classy and unusual cocktail dresses and lingerie. But until recently, the store has not offered casual clothing; you know, the cute, comfy stuff you just wanna wear every day and not pay an arm and a leg for.

So when Point Zero Canada contacted me to introduce their new ‘Curvy’ line, I was over the moon. To be able to offer good quality, stylish, trendy, comfy and AFFORDABLE pieces was a dream I had been chasing since opening the business in 2009.

The collection, priced at $29 to $69, has been flying off the racks. In this post, I’ll show you one of my fav pieces, the Striped Illusion Maxi Dress.

IMG_3946

Who wouldn’t want a classic black and ivory dress that can be worn for years to come, dressed up or down. The design on this dress is genius, with the side panels emphasizing an hourglass silhouette. The bodice is lined, and the fabric is like a luxurious t-shirt jersey.

IMG_3953

IMG_3961

And the skirt has just enough flair and weight to provide graceful movement without feeling bulky.

IMG_3979

Wide shoulder straps accommodate your bra and the v-neck is subtle, revealing just a touch of décolletage.

IMG_3948

The design is repeated on the back, which is nice because some designers seem to forget about that part – but we all want to be admired when walking away, don’t we?

IMG_3986

I styled it with these electric blue pumps and a pearl necklace because I felt like dressing it up, but it would have looked awesome with casual flats and a jean jacket too.

IMG_4000 IMG_3972

The sizing on Point Zero Curvy is quite generous so I do recommend going one size down. At least it’s not the other way around; too often we are having to size up and squeeze ourselves into styles that are considered ‘trendy’, but not with Point Zero Curvy. What a nice change.

Short Girls CAN Wear Maxi Dresses – a Tropical Playground

Happy Tuesday loves! First of all, I wanted to THANK all my new followers – I am so happy that you like my blog so far and truly enjoy reading it. That means EVERYTHING to me and makes it all worthwhile.

Today’s post features a lovely plus size maxi dress from SexyPlus Clothing. I specifically chose this dress to show you that petite girls CAN wear maxis – coming from my compact little 5’1′ perspective. And yes, investing in a little hem shortening is worth it.

The Tropical Garden Maxi Dress is custom made for the boutique. Each year, the designer of this dress, named Dream Dance, comes up with an array of beautiful new fabrics, and clients like SexyPlus Clothing get to choose which styles we want in those fabrics. This means that the combination of the particular fabric (the Tropical Garden) on this particular dress style (the Celebrity Maxi) is unique to the boutique, which is important because sometimes it’s nice to have a piece of clothing that is not mass produced and worn by everyone.

What I love about the Tropical Garden Dress:

1) thick shoulder straps that are bra friendly – score!

2) an empire waist that defines the smallest part of my body and makes the skirt of the dress fall easily over my tummy

3) the black piping around the bust ads a contrast that enables me to coordinate the look with black accessories like the belt and lace vest, and a black sandal

4) the length! Maxis are awesome because they are so easy to style – it’s one piece and there’s your outfit.

I went for a lovely statement necklace that just had the perfect color combination.

And I couldn’t resist these crazy strappy wedges I got a few years ago in some ghetto mall. Like the necklace, the colors were just too perfect to pass up. I could have gone for a simple black sandal, or any color shoe and that’s what’s so great about this dress: the versatility and the options it presents for styling.

SASSY 2 FINAL-12

So do you still think you’re too short for maxi dresses?

Maybe you need to sleep on it…

Let’s not lie down on the issue too long…

WAKE UP! Get yourself into a MAXI dress and be a goddess!

Botanical Beauty – Dress Your Senses

Sassyd2-22You know when you walk into a store, or walk past a window and something just stops you in your tracks, and you stare in complete adoration? Well, that’s how I felt about this dress by Addition Elle, simply named the “Reversible Sleeveless Printed Maxi Dress”, but I lovingly call it the Botanical Beauty.

With such a vivid explosion of tropical blooms contrasting on that solid black background, its exuberance called to my senses.

If you happen to feel a little shy about your arms sometimes, like I do, and it depends on the day to be honest, this dress can be paired with almost any color shrug, and I decided on this fresh pink one also from Addition Elle. I liked the look with and without the shrug.

Sassyd2-5I also like to wear belts – they are not for everyone, and again, do what makes you feel good. For me, I like how they cinch the smallest part of my body (the waist), and also add style and edge. But the look would have been great without the belt as well.

Sassyd2-17

I added a simple necklace from Ardene. With such a bold print, I didn’t need a statement piece that would compete with the dress, and I wanted to pick up the black and silver from the belt.

Sassyd2-18

I can’t wait to wear this lovely Botanical Beauty again – and did I mention, it has pockets??? Such simple things make us happy don’t they?

Sassyd2-23

Sassyd2-24

And my trusted lace up sandals from Penningtons that I featured in a previous post here were perfect for this outfit, and for comfort.
