It’s been a while since my last post, but I am so proud to bring you the Ambrosia. This dress, by one of my favourite recently relaunched brands, IGIGI, is quite spectacular.

When you love a bodycon (a form fitted style that outlines your curves) like I do, but you also are a little self-conscious of your tummy, ruching is your friend. Ruching is a style of pleating that has become popular in recent years, and the reason it is embraced is because it camouflages the area it covers. So if you are drawn to bodycons, but you’re a little shy about your mid-section, look for dresses with ruching, or better yet, try the Ambrosia itself.

With a slightly off-shoulder design, and a sweetheart neckline revealing a slight décolletage, the Ambrosia is a sexy yet still sophisticated cocktail, dinner or date option.

Given the time of year and approaching Spring weather, I decided to style it with a cream coloured wedge sandal and accessorize with ruby and cream accents.

The large Ruby Multi Chain Faceted Teardrop Crystal Necklace Set elevates the look to a more formal level. And the Sophie Multi-wear shawl by designer Joseph Ribkoff provides a layer of elegance and ties in with the sandals.

The Ambrosia dress comes in black and teal as well, in sizes 14-36.

Welcome Fall – I Harvest You

As mentioned in my previous post, I am excited for Fall because with each season, plus size fashion gets better and better. The Affordable Casual Collection by Point Zero Curvy offered at my boutique SexyPlus Clothing is no exception. I mean, just LOOK at this bee-you-tiful kimono duster in all of its glorious detail.

Not only is the boho print so romantically autumn, but the back features a top and bottom lace insert, allowing your outfit (and derriere) to be seen from the back, and the fringe makes it oh so dramatic.

I love tapered garments that can be loose fitting but still outline my silhouette, and this plus size kimono duster has just that. I don’t feel like my shape is lost.

There are so many ways this beautiful piece can be styled: with jeans, a cami and leggings, over a jumpsuit, etc. Endless!!!

Now let’s talk about the LBD I have underneath. Also a Point Zero Curvy design, this basic a-line dress is actually not so basic.

Featuring faux-leather braiding to decorate the soft v neckline, and totally whimsical chiffon bell sleeves.

As a petite plus, the length was perfect for me, and my taller sisters may enjoy it’s above-knee look, especially throughout the season with tights and wide calf boots.

The sizing was generous and I am wearing the 0X (I normally wear a 1X).

This is just the beginning and I’ll be sharing more Fall looks that will make summer’s end a little less painful.

Special thanks to Caterina for photographing me – she’s a sizzling Canadian plus size model and good friend – check her out here.

Plus Size Outfit of the Day: Vintage

My plus size outfit of the day features this classic from 2010 – a beautiful, tiered floral cotton dress from SexyPlus Clothing’s early years. Talk about timeless. I love the on or off-shoulder option, and I always feel so feminine in this dress.

Enchanting Fall Maxi

I love, love, lovelove love maxi dresses, even as a petite plus woman. But it’s hard to stay with them as the temperature drops because there’s little selection where the fabrics and colours are appropriate for the changing season. That’s why I was enchanted with this style, which was selected by SWAK Designs especially for me. You see, SWAK (Sealed With A Kiss) understands the plus size woman, and is dedicated to celebrating not only her curves, but her vitality as well. This is proven in the range of plus size clothing they create and the exciting variety of plus size dresses they dream up for us. Just look at the diversity in the image below taken from their Fall look-book.

I was so pleased when I received the Caitlyn Maxi Wrap Dress because of its vivid harvest colours and wrap style. Wrap dresses work well because they allow for a custom fit; wrapping as tight or as loose as you want, and the overlay created by the wrap provides a good layer over the tummy to fashion a smooth look.

The rich colors and diagonal print are just so visually interesting and draw the eyes up.

Even from the side, where my belly is more visible, this style works well.

I styled it with a simple but striking chocker necklace, and this crazy beautiful clutch by Aldo Accessories. I didn’t need much else because this dress does all the talking.

It’s really such a lovely dress, and so easy to wear.

So say hello to Fall without saying goodbye to maxi dresses.

See it here on Pamela, a size 3X guest at SWAK Designs.

It also comes in this gorgeous abstract print.

And although I wore a wedge sandal with this look, it would have been lovely with a little bootie or ballerina shoe, as shown below by Additon Elle. Eloquii has also introduced some lovely wide width footwear options.

Short Girls CAN Wear Maxi Dresses – a Tropical Playground

Happy Tuesday loves! First of all, I wanted to THANK all my new followers – I am so happy that you like my blog so far and truly enjoy reading it. That means EVERYTHING to me and makes it all worthwhile.

Today’s post features a lovely plus size maxi dress from SexyPlus Clothing. I specifically chose this dress to show you that petite girls CAN wear maxis – coming from my compact little 5’1′ perspective. And yes, investing in a little hem shortening is worth it.

The Tropical Garden Maxi Dress is custom made for the boutique. Each year, the designer of this dress, named Dream Dance, comes up with an array of beautiful new fabrics, and clients like SexyPlus Clothing get to choose which styles we want in those fabrics. This means that the combination of the particular fabric (the Tropical Garden) on this particular dress style (the Celebrity Maxi) is unique to the boutique, which is important because sometimes it’s nice to have a piece of clothing that is not mass produced and worn by everyone.

What I love about the Tropical Garden Dress:

1) thick shoulder straps that are bra friendly – score!

2) an empire waist that defines the smallest part of my body and makes the skirt of the dress fall easily over my tummy

3) the black piping around the bust ads a contrast that enables me to coordinate the look with black accessories like the belt and lace vest, and a black sandal

4) the length! Maxis are awesome because they are so easy to style – it’s one piece and there’s your outfit.

I went for a lovely statement necklace that just had the perfect color combination.

And I couldn’t resist these crazy strappy wedges I got a few years ago in some ghetto mall. Like the necklace, the colors were just too perfect to pass up. I could have gone for a simple black sandal, or any color shoe and that’s what’s so great about this dress: the versatility and the options it presents for styling.

So do you still think you’re too short for maxi dresses?

Maybe you need to sleep on it…

Let’s not lie down on the issue too long…

WAKE UP! Get yourself into a MAXI dress and be a goddess!

Stay tuned for my next blog post featuring my guest the gorgeous Selina (who you met recently) in an Addition Elle swimsuit.

Moroccan Triple Sec

This outfit is like a shot of liqueur – warm and smooth going down, with an assertive burn, like Triple Sec. That’s how I think of the Skylar Dress by SexyPlus Clothing featured here: a strong brick orange background infused with a bold Moroccan print create the full-bodied color palette for this crisp summer ensemble.

Sometimes I start with the shoes, or even the necklace, and build an outfit based on that. But in this case, the dress itself was the Pièce De Résistance.

This zesty strapless number features a unique side HI-LO with a wide, flirty ruffle hem. It’s super flattering light-weight rayon fabric is easy to wear – I swear! It’s not clingy, so it’s a good summer style that doesn’t require shapewear.

The bust has a light ‘blouson’ style with an elastic waist. I like to define my waist so I added a thick navy blue stretchy belt. Here’s the thing – I didn’t like the buckle on the belt (it was so outdated, which was to be expected since it was thrifted) so I clipped an orange hair-flower over it. Voila. Looks all intentional doesn’t it?

SASSY 2 FINAL-8Next, to bring in the blue tones, I chose my Addition Elle blue & black statement necklace and bright blue cobalt pumps from Payless.

Notice that the belt, necklace and shoes are different shades of blue and yet they still compliment the outfit? An important technique to note: when getting dressed, many of us have a tendency to “match” rather than to coordinate. Coordinating forces you to step outside of your comfort zone but yields some pretty striking results that are wonderfully, uniquely you.

Because I’m a romantic and long for the days when women paraded themselves in immaculately coordinated ensembles, I couldn’t resist the tangy mango hat.

I chose a playground to photograph this outfit because I wanted to culminate the essence of fashion and fun, but truth be told, my spiky heels were sinking into the ground so this location made no sense at all, but doesn’t it look good? Seriously, this outfit would have been ideal for a summer BBQ (on more solid ground), an afternoon at an art festival, having a Sex In The City style lunch with friends….The point is that you can take a casual dress and make it ‘haute’ with your accessories, your footwear, and of course your attitude.

I toast our curves and the fashion to celebrate them!

Botanical Beauty – Dress Your Senses

Sassyd2-22You know when you walk into a store, or walk past a window and something just stops you in your tracks, and you stare in complete adoration? Well, that’s how I felt about this dress by Addition Elle, simply named the “Reversible Sleeveless Printed Maxi Dress”, but I lovingly call it the Botanical Beauty.

With such a vivid explosion of tropical blooms contrasting on that solid black background, its exuberance called to my senses.

If you happen to feel a little shy about your arms sometimes, like I do, and it depends on the day to be honest, this dress can be paired with almost any color shrug, and I decided on this fresh pink one also from Addition Elle. I liked the look with and without the shrug.

Sassyd2-5I also like to wear belts – they are not for everyone, and again, do what makes you feel good. For me, I like how they cinch the smallest part of my body (the waist), and also add style and edge. But the look would have been great without the belt as well.

I added a simple necklace from Ardene. With such a bold print, I didn’t need a statement piece that would compete with the dress, and I wanted to pick up the black and silver from the belt.

I can’t wait to wear this lovely Botanical Beauty again – and did I mention, it has pockets??? Such simple things make us happy don’t they?

And my trusted lace up sandals from Penningtons that I featured in a previous post here were perfect for this outfit, and for comfort.
