Saying Goodbye to Summer 16

I have enjoyed Summer 2016 probably more than any summer in my life because I can honestly say that I’ve come to a point where my insecurities and societal pressures DO NOT affect how I dress. I’ve worn my hair pulled back into a pony because of the high temps, something I would not have done before because I didn’t think I was pretty with my hair that way. I’ve gone to the beach, worn sleeveless dresses all summer, showed my knees in shorts, and dressed according to the climate, with a sense of freedom and exhilaration.

So while I am sad that it’s coming to an end, the consolation prize is the AMAZING Fall fashions coming this way. As the owner of SexyPlus Clothing boutique, I’ve selected some fabulous pieces for you to welcome the harvest season with joy and excitement, like this ensemble from Point Zero Curvy brand, now in store.

IMG_2572

The top is gorgeous and I love cold shoulders – so sassy. The corset effect at the bust is just so me and the bell sleeves, well, that’s what I’ve come to love and expect from Point Zero Curvy, in that they never compromise details and style.

IMG_2577

The back features a nice V and the side slits on the blouse allow it to fall loosely on your hips without being clingy. If you are self-conscious about your belly, trust me this top is your friend as I have a pretty pronounced mid-section which is nicely concealed in this top.

IMG_2581

The length is perfect to wear with these super bad new leggings – the faux-leather sections in the front make them look like boots. In the colder months, I would wear these with booties and they would look like over-the-knee boots!

IMG_2566

In a thick, curve-hugging ponte fabric with large elastic waist bands, they stay in place and are truly uber comfy.

IMG_2562

So don’t feel bad about summer ending…Fall is going to be fabulous dontcha know!

Special thanks to Caterina for photographing me – she’s a sizzling Canadian plus size model and good friend – check her out here.

Stop Matching; Start Coordinating

Growing up in a Cotton Ginny culture, or Au Coton in Montreal where I was raised, getting dressed was all about matching. Your leg warmers matched your sweater and your earrings and your headband – you get the idea.

111212_930hn_tete_aucoton_sn635

As I’ve matured though, I’ve refined my personal style and learned to coordinate my outfits, instead of mindlessly matching. And coordinating is where your personal style really gets a chance to affirm itself.

This outfit is so simple, but coordinated to provide interesting contrast, texture and rich colour.

IMG_0765

Instead of reaching for another blue item to match the blouse, or a white or black item to match the leggings, I went totally wild and put these two together. Ok, so maybe it’s not exactly ‘wild’ but let’s go with unexpected and the result is totally refreshing.

IMG_0766

IMG_0764

The shirt is long enough to pair with leggings and just falls loosely around the hips. Shirts like this are essential for casual chic looks. You may find them square or boxy looking on the hangers, but I encourage you to give them a try when you see them. Some are surprisingly shapely and flattering without being clingy.

IMG_0763

Throw on your fav wide calf boots or booties and your look is complete. And oh, for the jewelry, try ‘coordinating’ too – instead of instinctively matching. You might be surprised by the stylish outcome. For this outfit I opted for a simple tri-coloured gold pendant.

There are so many ways to pull off this look – just pick a shirt and a pair of leggings that don’t match!

New Year’s Eve: Stayin’ In, In Style

Sometimes a small get together or an evening in with a friend or your partner is just the right vibe for New Year’s Eve. It all depends on your mood, the weather, where you are in life, and what you feel is more fulfilling. Over the years, I’ve done both. This year, my husband Howard actually asked me on a NYE date! I’m totally going to get dressed up and dance the night away. But I wanted to share a look that’s nice, festive, comfortable, and just the thing for staying in this year.

IMG_0521

This embellished neck blouse by Point Zero Curvy is so charming. Pin tuck detail on the shoulders, beaded velvet neckline, and criss-cross back.

IMG_0532

IMG_0501Point Zero never misses the mark with detail, which is so nice for such an affordable collection.

IMG_0510

I’m wearing the 1X and while I liked the tunic length, I found the body fit a little loose. Plus I always prefer to outline my shape with either fitted clothing or a belt, so that’s what I did here to make the blouse more “me”. I opted for a simple black belt with silver detailing to complement the embellished neckline of the blouse.

IMG_0518

To bring in some color I wore my favorite Kristi Wide Calf Boots by SexyPlus (designed by Boots by Pamela). They are a size 7 and fit perfectly. I’ve gotten so much wear from them this season because, well, isn’t it obvious? They’re red and so so beautiful! It’s funny, most people will go for black for that reason – they think they’ll get more mileage from a more neutral color, but sometimes you just have to be creative. I’ve had no shortage of brown, grey, black and white outfits to wear with these.

IMG_0543

Tell me, what are your plans for New Year’s Eve? Staying in or going out? Let me know, and let me see you by sharing your pics on my Facebook page.

Special thanks to Point Zero Curvy for sponsoring this post, and to Annika of The Stylish Reid for taking the photos for me!

Cold Shoulder, Hot Me!

Ya, ok, quite the arrogant title, but let me explain. I’m all about body positivity and loving myself- it’s the only way I was able to get into the plus size fashion business and authentically do what I do. But let’s be honest: even though we may love ourselves as a package, which took me years to achieve, we are still picky about certain areas of our bodies, and more or less comfortable featuring them. And I think we’re allowed to be this way – as long as we recognize that as a whole, as a ‘package’, we are quite perfect.

That being said, I’m not super crazy about my arms – I still go sleeveless and enjoy the sun on my arms and shoulders in the summer, and I don’t let it hinder my life, but, when I come across a top that lets me expose the super sexy part of my arms that I like (my shoulders), well, it’s cause for celebration. Or at least a blog post 🙂

IMG_7266

This is the Crush Cold Shoulder Top by Point Zero Curvy. It’s prefect in every way: cold shoulders, gold chain detail and front/back peek-a-boo keyhole for that oooh lala factor, and long enough to wear as a tunic.

IMG_7299

IMG_7288

And notice that even though it shows my belly outline, I’m still ok with that.

IMG_7269

I styled it with a fun Steve Madden faux fur scarf to add some colour and texture to the outfit.

IMG_7272

And I chose black leggings as a neutral bottom and then my brown wide calf boots by Pennington’s (last year).

IMG_7274

IMG_7294

Here it is styled a little differently on plus size model Ophilia for SexyPlus Clothing boutique.

Crush Top

So ladies, know that it’s ok to wear what makes you feel most comfortable while working with your least and most favourite parts, as long as you work on accepting and appreciate the wonderful ALL of you.

27 Canadian Plus Size Fashion Bloggers You Need To Know

Bloggers are changing the world and it’s a revolution. They are quickly rising not only in popularity, but in influence as well. Brands cannot ignore the tremendous impact bloggers are having on retail, fashion, beauty and so many other industries. Through their tireless work (because blogging is VERY demanding), investment (yes, in many cases, they actually have to buy the items they style) and their unique and uncompromising sense of style, they are giving a voice to consumers about trends, sizes, prices, availability, diversity, quality and needs.

They are unapologetic. They are awesome. They are fearless. They are trailblazers in the body positive and beauty diversity movement. They stand courageous every day against criticism from trolls and fat shamers, to remain true to their principles. With utmost vulnerability, they pour their hearts out in the hopes of touching and inspiring a human being with a similar reality.

This blog is a BIG resounding, glorious, grateful tribute to them. I’ve rounded up 27 of the Canadian Plus Size Fashion Bloggers who have touched me in one way or another. Holiday Casual with Haute Style

While some of us are lucky enough to have the opportunity to get all glammed up for holiday parties and galas, others just need something stylish to wear to more casual holiday gatherings, like family dinners or office luncheons. With this in mind, I wanted to share this plus size fashion look featuring Point Zero Curvy that I styled on a gorgeous plus size model you may already know, Caterina.

She’s wearing the Crochet Lace Sleeves Plus Size Blouse and Side Lace Print Plus Size Leggings. The crochet lace detail on the blouse steps the casual level up a notch making it a lovely option for the festive season, and beyond.

IMG_6483

The side slits make it easy to wear and add a bit of sexiness to this relatively modest top, showing a hint of your hips.

IMG_6495

IMG_6570.jpg

Pairing it with the Side Lace Print Leggings was another way to add interest to an all-black outfit. The lace print detail is sassy but still subtle enough to compliment, rather than compete, with the lace detail of the blouse. The are super soft, comfy and stretchy. They also have a natural high waist that accommodates a fuller behind and won’t slide down.

IMG_6492

The crochet lace detail on the top continues across the shoulders in back which is a nice detail that Point Zero Curvy always considers in their designs.

IMG_6575

It’s an easy to wear, dramatic look like the title of this post: Holiday Casual with Haute Style.

IMG_6490

The final touch to this look were the amazing wide calf boots, called the Debbie style by ‘Boots by Pamela’ brand. With a medium but sexy heel, cocoon style with buckle detailing, they’re the perfect manageable heel in a wide calf boot that I’ve seen this year.

Special thanks to Caterina for modelling this look for my blog!

Folk Inspired

Folk inspired? Really? Me?

I don’t usually consider my style to be folk anything, but this beautiful tunic/dress by Point Zero Curvy won me over at first sight.

IMG_5386

The beautiful print is just dreamy and the fabric, although a poly blend,  is a little sturdier and softer than your typical slinky poly blend.

IMG_5409

It comes with a detachable belt, that can be tied loosely in front or in back.

IMG_5407

IMG_5402

IMG_5416

I decided to wear it with basic leggings (also by Point Zero Curvy and super comfy) and nude pumps but it would have looked nice as a dress with tights and boots too, so you can see it is quite versatile.

IMG_5397

I chose a big statement necklace to wear over the tunic because of its high neckline.

IMG_5411

And guess what, this tunic/dress is now on SALE! Check below for details and where to shop.
