Varsity

By now you know that I’m a lover of tunics and leggings in the Winter months. It’s just a combination that works for my shape. But sometimes, when we find a cut or combination that works for us, we may end up mindlessly repeating it and letting our stylee-senses fall to the wayside.

This is why I force myself to opt for contrasting colours, patterns and textures when putting outfits together.

When I saw this varsity sweater dress at Forever 21, I knew it was for me. Although featured on their website as a dress, which I could do in summer or to go out, I knew it would be great as a tunic. The classic black and white pattern can be paired with solids and patterns as I did with these herringbone tights from Addition Elle.

You might never suspect it, but it works so well to add yet another pattern, the animal print belt and necklace. And the hint of pink in the necklace picks up the magenta tones in the tights quite nicely.

Any wide calf boots would have done the trick here, but I opted for one of my all-time favorite styles, the Venus by SexyPlus (designed by Boots by Pamela).

I am wearing shapewear because I like a sleek, more contained look and feel.

I shot these images myself with my tripod so excuse me if they all kinda look the same! Points for effort? πŸ™‚

Heather and The Cookie

In my last post, Harnessed but not Bound, I showed you a harness bra and a faux fur stole by Flaws of Couture/FOC Details styled with a cocktail dress from SexyPlus Clothing. Well, Sasha of FOC was not only my inspiration for the harness bra, but she also came to my store wearing this killer outfit featuring the stole (called the “Cookie”) and I shamelessly copied her – but that’s pure flattery right Sasha?

She paired it with this structured long line heather grey jacket from Forever 21 Plus Sizes.Β Isn’t her outfit the epitome of casual chic?

I wouldn’t have looked twice at this piece unless I had seen it on Sasha. Sometimes you just never know until you see it on someone or try it on.

I loved the structured, polished elongated look of the jacket against it’s more casual heather grey fabric.

It’s a superb light weight comfortable piece for shopping, work, weekend strolls, movie night and I know I’ll get good mileage from it. I love the large pockets too. I wore basic black leggings and flat knee-high wide calf boots. I am wearing the 1X in the jacket and the fit is true to size. The sleeves are a little long but that’s because I’m a lil short πŸ˜‰

Thanks to Sasha, I know how to dress it up in style.

I got lots of compliments that day, so I know it was a good look.
