Plus Size Outfit of the Day: Feminine Gladiator

Today’s plus size outfit of the day makes me feel like a feminine gladiator, with this beautifully trimmed geo-lace pink blouse and the caramel gladiator sandals. A basic black legging keeps the focus on the other details. I brought in the browns with this heart necklace, and that’s it! Ready for the games 🙂

Plus Size Outfit of the Day: Spring Please!

It’s still chilly here in Toronto, Canada, but us fashionistas are SO ready for Spring. We can’t wait to whip out old favourites and style them with new accessories and shoes. So despite the fact that real sunny days haven’t reached us yet, I decided to wear this dress from last year, a real tropical beauty. It was featured in one of my very early posts as a new plus size fashion blogger, and photographed by Rebecca Northcott.

Here I am wearing it today:

And here I am wearing is last year, for the blog:

I know I will love this one for years to come.

Plus Size Outfit of the Day: Delicate Mint

LO-VING my plus size outfit of the day today, featuring a beautiful corset detail knit top with delicate floral scrolls and to create contrast which I love, I added a mint coloured cardi and a belt to cinch the look.

Plus Size Outfit of the Day: Spring Camo Ammo

This outfit is total Spring transition and I’m ‘armed’ with the right wardrobe pieces to make it happen. I wanted to wear sandals but it’s still a bit chilly soooo I threw on my fav tuxedo mesh cardi.

Plus Size Outfit of the Day: Blue for Autism

Today’s plus size outfit of the day is in honour of Autism Awareness, and more specifically to blogger Annika of The Stylish Read who is the proud and devoted mother of an autistic child.

Stop Matching; Start Coordinating

Growing up in a Cotton Ginny culture, or Au Coton in Montreal where I was raised, getting dressed was all about matching. Your leg warmers matched your sweater and your earrings and your headband – you get the idea.

As I’ve matured though, I’ve refined my personal style and learned to coordinate my outfits, instead of mindlessly matching. And coordinating is where your personal style really gets a chance to affirm itself.

This outfit is so simple, but coordinated to provide interesting contrast, texture and rich colour.

Instead of reaching for another blue item to match the blouse, or a white or black item to match the leggings, I went totally wild and put these two together. Ok, so maybe it’s not exactly ‘wild’ but let’s go with unexpected and the result is totally refreshing.

The shirt is long enough to pair with leggings and just falls loosely around the hips. Shirts like this are essential for casual chic looks. You may find them square or boxy looking on the hangers, but I encourage you to give them a try when you see them. Some are surprisingly shapely and flattering without being clingy.

IMG_0763

Throw on your fav wide calf boots or booties and your look is complete. And oh, for the jewelry, try ‘coordinating’ too – instead of instinctively matching. You might be surprised by the stylish outcome. For this outfit I opted for a simple tri-coloured gold pendant.

There are so many ways to pull off this look – just pick a shirt and a pair of leggings that don’t match!

What is a Coatigan?

New terms are being added to our vocabulary all the time, and fashion is no stranger to making up words to suit a trend. I’m not sure when it was born, but “Coatigans” are all over the place, and this year, Addition Elle made a beautiful one.

IMG_2754

So what, exactly, is a coatigan? Well, it’s like a cardigan, but less structured and somewhat slouchy, with no closure. Not as in a bad breakup ‘no closure’, but without a zipper or buttons like a coat would have. It’s the perfect item for the transition into Fall, before the weather gets too cold. And if you don’t have one yet, you’re missing out! From office casual to cottage life, it’s haute style meets cozy.

IMG_2715

I particularly like the long-line coatigans like this one, which create an ultra chic look.

IMG_2723

They’re great for climbing on benches and taking blog photos.

IMG_2795

I totally fell in love with the unique pattern on this one, with the dark grey touches on the sleeves and the back.

IMG_2806

I had to size down and go for the 0X, and it’s still really generous; so definitely go one or two sizes down if you’re thinking of getting it. I went monochromatic with one bold colour for this look because the print on the coatigan was busy enough.

IMG_2740

Styled with a cool faux leather pendant that can be worn on the white or the black side.

IMG_2822

Threw on my trusted thigh-high wide calf boots and perfect leggings to complete the look.

Have you gotten into the coatigan trend? Send me pictures – I’d love to see your style!

Here is the coatigan on the catalogue model, and on plus size sensation Tess Holliday. Love how she belted it!
