#HolidayDoubleSlay with MustangSallyTwo

I am so excited to share this totally cool collab that I was involved in with my friend and blogger babe Lisa of Mustangsallytwo. We were talking about her upcoming holiday look book a few weeks ago and the idea of combining each of her festive looks with a fellow blogger or model was born, so each day this week she has been sharing a unique look featuring a different brand in each post. It’s called the Holiday Double Slay, and it’s been causing quite a merry stir since Monday.

Here’s a recap of the beautiful, sassy, sparkly looks she’s shared so far:

Monday: Lisa and Thera, wearing Lane Bryant

Tuesday: Lisa and Caterina, wearing SexyPlus (a design by Kiyonna)

Wednesday: Lisa and Sarah, wearing Torrid

Photo credit: Robert Skuja Photography (left and right) Photo credit: Stefanie Augusteijn (centre)

And….THURSDAY is Lisa and ME wearing SWAK (Sealed with a Kiss Designs)!!!

I was so inspired by Lisa’s holiday project and delighted to be included. I love to create and I just knew we would have bumper to bumper fun.

We are wearing the Carmen dress which is a sheath dress with colour blocking and mesh detail at the top.

The black side panels are a chic optical benefit because they help enhance an hourglass silhouette.

I am wearing the 1X and the fit is true to size. Lisa is wearing the 5X. I LOVE and appreciate that SWAK is devoted to the plus size woman and manufactures accurate sizes up to 6X.

The sweetheart shaped mesh top ads a sexy feel to the look and I would recommend wearing a strapless bra for a smooth unencumbered presentation. I’m smitten with how the mesh tends to have a ruched look too because of the pleating on the neckline hem.

I loVe the deep V plunge at the back which gives the dress that “watch me walk away” appeal.

To contrast Lisa’s choice of a black pump, I went with a sexy lace-up medium-heeled faux-suede boot.

Then, for warmth and coverage I chose a sweater cardi with faux fur collar for that cozy yet glamorous flair.

The statement necklace is an oldie but definitely gave my look some sparkle and decor.

I am wearing shapewear of course, size 1X.

And these photos! What can I say, I am so impressed with the work of Robert Skuja of Robert Skuja Photography for making me feel beautifully captured.

So stay tuned for the rest of Lisa’s Holiday Double Slay campaign with Nakitende Esther on Friday and Amanda Montgomery on Saturday. Thank you Lisa for the gift of creating this with you. Click here for Lisa’s review of this dress on her blog.

Wishing you all a magical Christmas, whatever that means to you.

Xox

Fat and Proud – Reclaiming the Word Fat

Today is an epic day for the body positivity movement and plus size fashion industry in Canada. It is with great pride (as a proud plus size woman and industry entrepreneur), that I share the news that Karen Ward, a pioneer in this industry as a blogger and boutique owner, along with other trailblazers made the cover of Toronto Metro News.

To reclaim the word fat, Karen says “we need to strip it of its ability to hurt, shed the negative connotations it has accrued, and use it to label ourselves.” As the wife of a Jamaican born and raised man, the word fat has never held these connotations for my husband. Instead, it implies an attractive, healthy, rounded and appealing woman. It is quite refreshing to see an entire culture, and most of the Caribbean, celebrating beauty diversity in this way and with features like today’s article in Toronto Metro News, we may slowly but surely achieve our goal so eloquently described by Karen above.

While there are many models, bloggers and beauty diversity advocates and institutions making headway in Toronto and worldwide, I am so thrilled that this feature included (from left to right) Sarah Taylor, Laura Caravaggio, Karen Ward, Ophilia Alleyne and Thera Warren.

Nicolette Mason for Addition Elle

On February 25, 2016 I attended the Nicolette Mason dress collection launch for Addition Elle at their downtown Toronto store. What a lovely event! Additon Elle and the downtown team went all out with beautiful decor and treats to compliment the totally girly collection, and the personality of Nicolette herself.

The collection, as described by Nicolette, is wearable and special, ranging from work to evening, sexy, well constructed and an expression of freedom.

IMG_7177 r1

There are 6 pieces in the collection, with each a unique style that speaks to a different side of our multi-faceted girly-ness. And I LOVE that the marketing team at Addition Elle decided to keep her tattoos visible in the photos.

I tried on the Janet dress, a bodycon with beautiful lace trim. There’s a lot of lace out there, and I really loved how Nicolette designed this dress with the lace shoulder straps that provide a stricking texture and contrast against the skin. It was kindof enchanted forest meets femme fatale.

12784604_10156560044025517_1280924396_n

The other styles were lovely, and here’s Sarah trying the flowing and uber feminine Gabi dress.

IMG_7173 r1

The care and craftsmanship that went into these designs is obvious. Bravo Nicolette!

She was lovely, kind and super approachable. I am so glad I had the chance to meet this body activist and plus size fashion blogger in person.

Thank you Nicolette and Addition Elle and congrats to the downtown team for a delightful fashion event.

[Totally unrelated sidebar] – have you seen their Spring lingerie? Addition Elle bras are my favourite because they are well-constructed, affordable, comfortable, provide great support and they’re BEYOND pretty. I mean, pink and orange everything please.

Heather and The Cookie

In my last post, Harnessed but not Bound, I showed you a harness bra and a faux fur stole by Flaws of Couture/FOC Details styled with a cocktail dress from SexyPlus Clothing. Well, Sasha of FOC was not only my inspiration for the harness bra, but she also came to my store wearing this killer outfit featuring the stole (called the “Cookie”) and I shamelessly copied her – but that’s pure flattery right Sasha?

12338672_1211250032223806_494881418_n(1).jpg

She paired it with this structured long line heather grey jacket from Forever 21 Plus Sizes. Isn’t her outfit the epitome of casual chic?

Untitled-1.jpg

I wouldn’t have looked twice at this piece unless I had seen it on Sasha. Sometimes you just never know until you see it on someone or try it on.

IMG_2741

I loved the structured, polished elongated look of the jacket against it’s more casual heather grey fabric.

IMG_2720

It’s a superb light weight comfortable piece for shopping, work, weekend strolls, movie night and I know I’ll get good mileage from it. I love the large pockets too. I wore basic black leggings and flat knee-high wide calf boots. I am wearing the 1X in the jacket and the fit is true to size. The sleeves are a little long but that’s because I’m a lil short 😉

IMG_2738

Thanks to Sasha, I know how to dress it up in style.

IMG_2745

I got lots of compliments that day, so I know it was a good look.

Harnessed but not Bound

You may have had your fill of my casual looks lately, so I thought I’d hit you HARD with this sexy holiday special.

A few months ago I saw the super stylish Sasha (shown below) of the blog Flaws of Couture feature this super sexy strappy thing I had never seen before. It stopped me dead in my tracks.

image1 (6)

I read her blog and discovered that it was called a “harness bra” and fell in love. They’re hand made by plus size fashion blogger @_classycurves_ from Germany who sells them under the brand @harnessbra_love on Instagram and offers international shipping.

She asked me what size bra I wore, and that was it – she was off to custom make mine. It was only $28 US + $3 shipping.

It arrived quickly and the fit was perfect. It’s actually two separate pieces, but like Sasha, I like the effect of wearing both. It goes around your torso, cups the outline of your breasts, and the other piece goes around your neck and under your breasts. Easy to figure out. And fun to style with all kinds of things, like the Martini Mermaid dress I chose for this look.

IMG_9851

IMG_9839

The Martini Mermaid dress is a new style that arrived at SexyPlus Clothing for the holiday season. It’s available in black or red, for $129 CDA. Unfortunately it only comes in sizes 12/14 to 18/20, and I’m wearing the 14/16.

IMG_9978

It’s tight but that’s how this vintage Jessica Rabbit-esque dress is supposed to fit. Tight like a glove. If you wear this size, I suggest you grab one because it will make you feel like a movie star indeed, cartoon or not.

IMG_9990 poster.jpg

The off-shoulder sweetheart neckline includes a wired bust to keep its shape, and the back features a sexy low scoop. I’m not wearing a bra so the harness bra helped to provide a bit of support, but to be honest I was all about celebrating the natural sexy jiggle of my bosom.

IMG_9842

The extended fishtail design just brings all the drama my introvert personality keeps in a bottle, and significantly creates an hourglass silhouette.

IMG_9998

I honestly felt like a sculpture in it. And paired with the harness bra, well, you can see what I’m talking about right?

IMG_9985

This is a classic all-season dress, but for my holiday feature and to provide a bit of coverage and evening glam, I paired it with my amazing new stole by FOC Details.

PERFECT.

IMG_9825

It’s oversized and soft and luxurious. There are so many ways to wear this piece I know I will get my mileage out of it and ladies, it’s so worth the modest $55 spend.

IMG_9801

Add a sassy clutch, some party pumps and you’re all set.

IMG_9810

IMG_9809

IMG_9813

IMG_9835

IMG_9863

And despite the fact that I’m a Goddess in this outfit, I still freeze like a human, ha!

IMG_9816

Special thanks to Lisa of Mustang Sally Two for photographing this look and putting up with my constant complaining about the cold! xox

Happy Holidays to you, my awesome readers. Thank you so much for your support in 2015. I love you and I hope to inspire you in 2016 and beyond.

Stefanie

27 Canadian Plus Size Fashion Bloggers You Need To Know

Bloggers are changing the world and it’s a revolution. They are quickly rising not only in popularity, but in influence as well. Brands cannot ignore the tremendous impact bloggers are having on retail, fashion, beauty and so many other industries. Through their tireless work (because blogging is VERY demanding), investment (yes, in many cases, they actually have to buy the items they style) and their unique and uncompromising sense of style, they are giving a voice to consumers about trends, sizes, prices, availability, diversity, quality and needs.
