Flowers to the Wind

So if you’re not ready to throw caution to the wind, just settle for some flowers. Or maybe, just maybe, you can try something new and step outside of your comfort zone. When I’m at my boutique, I hear things like “I’m not a dress person” or “I wish I could wear dresses” all the time from customers. The thing is, there IS a dress for you. It’s just a matter of finding the right one, for you.

This post features the lovely floral Diana V-neck plus size dress by SWAK (Sealed with a kiss Designs). Since I’m an apple shape (carrying most of my weight in my belly), empire cuts like this are a great solution. There’s NOTHING wrong with showing your belly mind you, but if you feel more comfortable with a little less emphasis on that area, and perhaps don’t want to bother with shapewear, then I suggest cuts like this.

The full circle skirt will just fall loosely around your belly and hips, while the surplice bodice shapes your upper body nicely.

I liked the craftsmanship on this dress, with the chiffon hem being nicely serged, and the skirt being fully lined.

To bring in the pinks (my favourite colour), I layered two statement necklaces (a style I borrowed from super blogger Thera of Cloud 14+).

A classic black pump, cute flat or even a summer wedge would be perfect to complete this breezy look.

This dress also comes in 3 other prints, up to size 6X:

So whether it’s dresses, leggings, jeans…just keep trying stuff on ladies, throw caution to the wind, and learn to embrace your curves in the ever-increasing selection of lovely styles we have available to us.

And oh, did I mention it was super crazy windy that day? 🙂

Plus Size Outfit of the Day: Pattern Mixing

Unlikely combination. Today’s ‪#‎psootd‬ features a patterned sweater and leggings that I never would have thought would be complimentary, but there you have it, the surprising results of pattern mixing.

Plus Size Outfit of the Day: #sizesexy

I’ve decided, based on your feedback, to include short reports on my daily outfits here on the blog in addition to my social media channels.

This is one dedicated to Tierra Sedgemore, creator of #SIZESEXY clothing. Last year I purchased one of her #sizesexy hoodies and it remains one of my favs. Slightly oversized, and super high quality (I’ve washed it like a million times). It’s my go-to for stylish, varsity casual.

Paired with my sweater knit fabric skull leggings by Torrid, and my wide calf boots by Payless Shoe Source, I’d say I’m casual cool, and uber comfy.

Happy Wednesday y’all!

Jailbird & Coral

What are you in for, ma’am? Well, that’s the thing: I’ve been breaking out of plus size fashion prison, and the related stereotypes, for some time now.

About 17 years ago (when I was 25), I decided that I was going to see myself as a “perfectly imperfect package”, and I’ve been rocking my curves ever since.

I think women reach this state of self appreciation and acceptance at different points in their lives, and it’s important that they do. Because then, they can break free from any restrictive barriers and soar, in mind and in wardrobe!

In 2009, I discovered the brand Sealed With A Kiss Designs (SWAK) when I was at the inaugural Full Figured Fashion Week in New York. I was looking for trendy, affordable plus size clothing brands to offer at my boutique SexyPlus, and SWAK was a fresh solution.

Recently I picked up the Zora Tunic Sweater because it fits right in with my style of fitted, body-contouring, unapologetically bold fashion. I paired it with my favourite (and best-selling) Perfect Leggings also from SWAK.
Although I’m petite, it would still be long enough for a taller lady to wear it with leggings as well.
And this is a good way to take your Winter stuff into Spring – change the accessories and shoes. This outfit would look nice with wide calf boots in the colder months. The bag adds a nice splash of colour which is always complimentary on a monochromatic outfit. It’s a gorgeous Coach handbag borrowed from Lisa of Mustangsallytwo – fashionista extra-ordinare and accessory Queen.
The size was a little small on the sweater so I got the 2X, and it was great. I am wearing my shapewear in these pictures.
Special thanks to Lisa of the blog Mustangsallytwo for snapping these great pictures for me!

Mirror Image

Point Zero Curvy brand just doesn’t quit. I LOVE their stuff. And I’m so glad that in 2015 they introduced a curvy line. Thank you Point Zero. I salute you.

I fell in love with this tunic when it first arrived at my store, SexyPlus Clothing. The colours, design and especially the mirror image were vibrant and just spoke to me.

It’s got a nice shape with a dolman-like sleeve. The fabric is mixed, with the back in a t-shirt fabric and the front in a more slinky poly fabric.

It could be worn as a mini dress, but with Spring transition and the weather not quite warm enough yet, I decided to style it with crop leggings.

To match the edginess of this design, I decided on a vintage choker also from SexyPlus Clothing, and my Maurices laser cute wedge sandals in nude. Tip: sometimes we tend to default to a black shoe, but you can lighten the look by opting for nude which is a super versatile neutral.

My blogger buddy and friend, Lisa of Mustangsallytwo, was kind enough to lend me this bright red clutch to complete the look.

Details on this outfit below, and thank you to Lisa for snapping this look for me!

See you all later!

Nicolette Mason for Addition Elle

On February 25, 2016 I attended the Nicolette Mason dress collection launch for Addition Elle at their downtown Toronto store. What a lovely event! Additon Elle and the downtown team went all out with beautiful decor and treats to compliment the totally girly collection, and the personality of Nicolette herself.

The collection, as described by Nicolette, is wearable and special, ranging from work to evening, sexy, well constructed and an expression of freedom.

There are 6 pieces in the collection, with each a unique style that speaks to a different side of our multi-faceted girly-ness. And I LOVE that the marketing team at Addition Elle decided to keep her tattoos visible in the photos.

I tried on the Janet dress, a bodycon with beautiful lace trim. There’s a lot of lace out there, and I really loved how Nicolette designed this dress with the lace shoulder straps that provide a stricking texture and contrast against the skin. It was kindof enchanted forest meets femme fatale.

The other styles were lovely, and here’s Sarah trying the flowing and uber feminine Gabi dress.

The care and craftsmanship that went into these designs is obvious. Bravo Nicolette!

She was lovely, kind and super approachable. I am so glad I had the chance to meet this body activist and plus size fashion blogger in person.

Thank you Nicolette and Addition Elle and congrats to the downtown team for a delightful fashion event.

[Totally unrelated sidebar] – have you seen their Spring lingerie? Addition Elle bras are my favourite because they are well-constructed, affordable, comfortable, provide great support and they’re BEYOND pretty. I mean, pink and orange everything please.
