Legging Winning

I don’t think I own a single pair of pants. Shameful? Maybe, but I just really prefer leggings. They are super comfy, flattering on many shapes and sizes, and just so perfect with seasonal tunics and sweaters. I wear mine with shapewear for two reasons: 1) I feel supported and 2) the shapewear provides a bit of friction to help prevent the leggings from sliding down.

And how exciting that more and more stores are offering leggings with cool prints (lace effect, tribal, seasonal) and different fabrics (cotton, spandex, ponte, leather look and even sweater knit!).

For this post I am featuring a pair of chocolate brown ponte* fabric leggings with side leatherette racer stripe from Point Zero Curvy (my new favourite casual affordable plus size brand).

*Ponte is a thick, stretchy, polyester/rayon/spandex knit that feels wonderful and keeps its shape. Note: Ponte is a nice option if you are self conscious about cellulite showing because it’s thick enough to smooth things over 🙂

This style has a thick elastic waistband which is both comfortable and provides stability.

This look, styled by Annika of the blog The Stylish Reid, is casual but rich in textures and conveys the harvest mood of Autumn.

I could not resist my adorable faux-fur vest, also by Point Zero Curvy brand, that I have worn maybe too many times already, but that I shall wear more because BECAUSE! Isn’t it obvious?

How to Wear A Coatigan as a Top

Well, despite the intriguing title suggesting some elaborate secret technique, it’s actually so simple I’m almost embarrassed to say….

Just belt it.

I defined what a coatigan is in my previous post, and when I was putting this look together, with the help of plus size blogger and stylist Annika of The Stylish Reid, I didn’t feel like wearing a top. Straight up. So she suggested belting it and it totally works. Sometimes you just don’t feel like coordinating and layering.

You just want to be comfortable, look good and go.

And that’s what this look is all about.

This gorgeous Fall look is by one of my new all-time fav brands, Point Zero Curvy. A well established Canadian brand who recently embraced the plus size market with their Curvy line. And I love it. The pieces are everyday wearable, and they’re anything but basic. Each piece, although casual, has some cool detail that just makes it special.

Annika selected a basic wide black belt and we pulled the coatigan tight to wrap over my bosom. This would have been totally appropriate for a casual office look, but would also work for delightful weekend window shopping, while slowly strolling and sipping hot chocolate.

I’m wearing the Point Zero Curvy super soft faux suede leggings and caramel boots to highlight the browns in the coatigan.

I hope you enjoyed this look and invite you to kick up your Fall style while keeping it comfy and simple.

Special thanks to Annika for styling this look and taking these photos.

What is a Coatigan?

New terms are being added to our vocabulary all the time, and fashion is no stranger to making up words to suit a trend. I’m not sure when it was born, but “Coatigans” are all over the place, and this year, Addition Elle made a beautiful one.

So what, exactly, is a coatigan? Well, it’s like a cardigan, but less structured and somewhat slouchy, with no closure. Not as in a bad breakup ‘no closure’, but without a zipper or buttons like a coat would have. It’s the perfect item for the transition into Fall, before the weather gets too cold. And if you don’t have one yet, you’re missing out! From office casual to cottage life, it’s haute style meets cozy.

I particularly like the long-line coatigans like this one, which create an ultra chic look.

They’re great for climbing on benches and taking blog photos.

I totally fell in love with the unique pattern on this one, with the dark grey touches on the sleeves and the back.

I had to size down and go for the 0X, and it’s still really generous; so definitely go one or two sizes down if you’re thinking of getting it. I went monochromatic with one bold colour for this look because the print on the coatigan was busy enough.

Styled with a cool faux leather pendant that can be worn on the white or the black side.

Threw on my trusted thigh-high wide calf boots and perfect leggings to complete the look.

Have you gotten into the coatigan trend? Send me pictures – I’d love to see your style!

Here is the coatigan on the catalogue model, and on plus size sensation Tess Holliday. Love how she belted it!

Enchanting Fall Maxi

I love, love, lovelove love maxi dresses, even as a petite plus woman. But it’s hard to stay with them as the temperature drops because there’s little selection where the fabrics and colours are appropriate for the changing season. That’s why I was enchanted with this style, which was selected by SWAK Designs especially for me. You see, SWAK (Sealed With A Kiss) understands the plus size woman, and is dedicated to celebrating not only her curves, but her vitality as well. This is proven in the range of plus size clothing they create and the exciting variety of plus size dresses they dream up for us. Just look at the diversity in the image below taken from their Fall look-book.

I was so pleased when I received the Caitlyn Maxi Wrap Dress because of its vivid harvest colours and wrap style. Wrap dresses work well because they allow for a custom fit; wrapping as tight or as loose as you want, and the overlay created by the wrap provides a good layer over the tummy to fashion a smooth look.

The rich colors and diagonal print are just so visually interesting and draw the eyes up.

Even from the side, where my belly is more visible, this style works well.

I styled it with a simple but striking chocker necklace, and this crazy beautiful clutch by Aldo Accessories. I didn’t need much else because this dress does all the talking.

It’s really such a lovely dress, and so easy to wear.

So say hello to Fall without saying goodbye to maxi dresses.

See it here on Pamela, a size 3X guest at SWAK Designs.

It also comes in this gorgeous abstract print.

And although I wore a wedge sandal with this look, it would have been lovely with a little bootie or ballerina shoe, as shown below by Additon Elle. Eloquii has also introduced some lovely wide width footwear options.
